a belated picture post
So today is actually Saturday (shhhhhh), but I'm setting the day to Friday and posting anyway because I feel kind of bad about not posting for two weeks in a row, so this post will be made up of (some of) the things I've been drawing lately.
they're on my tumblr as well, if you're so interested.
Enjoy.

winter break, yay?
So judging by previous posts, winter break hasn't been going as well as hoped for some of us, which is quite sad. D: After all, it's hardly fair that the longest break we're going to have until summer vacation is being ruined by a number of things, of which NHD is only a factor. Silly school.
As for me, winter break has been okay, though not as terribly restful as I'd expected. NHD's been the main factor, and I'm quite glad that House and I have been working well together and that we haven't reached the levels of drama that are afflicting Momo and Virgil. Hang in there, guys!
Apart from NHD, though, I haven't really been getting much stuff done, which is probably not good. The only real piece of homework I finished was the Greek translation, and that was, like, on the first day. Mostly I've been distracted by Internet drama and such, which is kind of funny to read but wastes a lot of time. Um.
I volunteered a few weeks ago on the nanowrimo forums to draw character art for people, and I am so behind on that it's not even funny. I thought I'd be able to get stuff done but I really haven't, so now there's stuff I should've finished a week ago that I've barely started and I feel bad.
So I'm working on three sketches at once right now, yay.
In other news, it's nearly Christmas, which is good. I've been procrastinating on NHD, which is not good. I've been procrastinating on a lot of things, which I think I've mentioned, which is also not not not good.
So, yeah. Winter break's been okay. I'm really annoyed that it hasn't snowed properly yet here in Curlyfryland.

Lynda and I are Mature, We Swear
So today is the last day of school in 2011, woot woot! I look forward for two weeks of lazing around (except not really, because of N-H-stupid-D) and eating too much food and getting into the holiday spirit! We Curly Fries did a Secret Santa, and my present was a necklace and a mysterious part II that should be coming in the mail, if all goes well. It sounds very mysterious and exciting. :D
Now just for two weeks of frantically trying to put together an NHD exhibit board. . .
Anyway, on a separate note, Lynda came over this afternoon and we watched Merlin together; it's really quite a cliche and overdramatic show at times, but it's enjoyable and fun to watch and the actors are all adorable. We were watching one of the creepier episodes (the one with a vengeful well-spirit who possesses a knight) and basically the whole thing went something like this:
Basically, just read left-to-right and then repeat for as long as necessary, aka the whole episode. And yes, we were actually frightened by shoddy green-lit special effects and a bit of ominous music. Yes, we are mature, we swear. And yes, all of the actors on Merlin are lovely to look at.
And, um, yeah. Knitting myself a scarf; that's going well.
That's it for today.

this is post #485
Oh, right, I was supposed to post today.
Well, nothing terribly interesting has been going on lately, and I don't want this post to be lamer than it already is, so have a few doodles and the completed version of last week's Lafayette.
Okay bye now.

tablet tablet tablet (lafayette!)
Hello* and happy December! Today is Momo's two-days-after-birthday, which should count for something, and today I got my tablet in the mail (hooray for quick shipping times!), which is a beautiful, beautiful thing.
I'm still not actually very good at it, because it involves drawing on one thing while looking at the computer screen on which the drawing shows up, which involves hand-eye coordination that I'm not superbly proficient in. However, everything is so much easier than drawing with the mouse and everything is sparkly and filled with rainbows now. :D
(My mother insists that it's nothing more than a glorified mouse ["WHY DOESN'T IT HAVE A SCREEN? WHY DOES IT HAVE NO INTERNET?" she complains, even though I've already explained to her that a graphics tablet isn't like a portable-computer tablet] and that it definitely wasn't worth $60, but she is completely and utterly wrong.)
So I was messing around in Photoshop and trying to do a few get-used-to-this-thing doodles that morphed into a sketch of our good ol' Marquis de Lafayette that I guess I'm going to color now.
And thus we segue into the second part of my post today, in which I talk about how content I am about the fact that NHD is going swimmingly. House and I went to go visit History Teacher and APUSH Teacher today, and they both had very positive and helpful comments about our entirely crazy; why do people even do National History Day? project on dear Lafayette (see? iz a segue), and I feel a lot better. Perhaps we might even get through winter break and not crash and burn. I am actually semi-hopeful about it now.
This week was a very long week after Thanksgiving break, but now it's Friday and therefore all better. Our school's putting on the musical Wonderful Town this weekend (plus yesterday and today), and I'm not yet sure whether I'm going to be going or not. It sounds like a good play, butI'd rather sit at home and play around with the tablet I don't know if I'll go.
Holiday decorations have already been put up everywhere, which is both nice and kind of sad; nice because they're pretty and shiny and colorful, but sad because we've only just finished Thanksgiving--one practically gets holiday whiplash and there's no real time to process one holiday before moving straight on to another. I suppose this says something about the human condition. :P
Aaaaaaand I think that's pretty much it. Have a lovely weekend!

*I really can't type today. It took me three tries just to type 'hello.' >.<

NHD-sy things and the eleventh of november
So you may remember that House and I did a rather silly project on Robespierre last year for not-quite-National-History-Day; this year, we're at it again, only instead of Robespierre, we bring you another French revolutionary who happens to be a) conveniently tied into American history, b) not hated by the general public and not considered a raving maniac, and c) a person who actually lived a nice, long life. In short, Marie-Joseph-he's-got-too-many-names du Motier, commonly known as the Marquis de Lafayette.
The outline powerpoint is due Monday and I spent awhile today doing that; it took longer than I thought and I got through about three-ish slides.
It's quite interesting to see how Lafayette gets old; one minute he's all chipper and wig-wearing and then he suddenly gets kind of old and chunky and you can see his actual hair color, which is apparently completely brown-red even when he's, like, sixty years old.
We've not gotten very far into the exact design of our exhibit board yet, but hopefully it'll nicely fuse the French and American flags together and it'll be pretty and mind-boggling and sparkly. :D
Soooo, yeah. It was a lovely day today; Curlyfryland received some snow, but it didn't stick around, much to my extreme disappointment. I ate a lot of ice cream and leftover Halloween candy and also read a lot of Merlin fanfiction and completely failed to increase my wordcount, but that's okay because I still have the rest of tonight and I'm almost to the halfway point and yeahhhh.
It's 11/11/11 today! Make a wish! (I missed 11:11 AM, unfortunately, but there's still the PM, so it's all good.) I wish that NHD were over, amongst other things.
okay bye.

happy national dress-up-like-Bio-Teacher day!
I think that Momo has already mentioned in a previous post what Bio Teacher (as opposed to Other Bio Teacher, who is the biology teacher of House and Lynda and therefore far less cool) dresses like; for those who missed the memo and and don't feel like clicking the link, he basically wears a lumberjack shirt and carries around a gold (but probably not real gold) coffee mug every single day. Today, by popular agreement of our bio class, was dress-up-like-Bio-Teacher day, in which over half the class showed up wearing plaid. It was funny.
Bio Teacher also bought us bagels, because we organized Bagel Fridays and nobody else wanted to bring them today, so he was forced into it. So it's like he's earning negative money for teaching us. ^.^ I had a raisin bagel and it was very delicious.
School was pretty dumb today and nothing very important was accomplished; after school, Lynda and I hung out with a fellow freshman nerd who, unlike his largely far-dimmer compatriots that populate my math class, has decided to take propertraumatizing ninth-grade geometry/algebra instead of being dumb and jumping up a grade. It was nice and we talked about how the high school library is terrible and also about grades, because no nerdy conversation can be complete without a conversation about grades.
(It almost made me feel popular. ^.^)
And then I went home and ate a lot and now I don't feel so well and I really don't want to do some dumb French homework assignment. And the IB programme is stupid. They need to work out their nouns and adjectives, because that's just stupid. (Speaking of the IB programme, there used to be a poster for it hanging on the wall of the school, but then the wind blew it off the wall and it broke a window, so now it is no longer there; that amused me to no end.)
In NaNo related news, my wordcount is at 7,115 (I haven't written anything yet today) and I guess putting up excerpts is, like, a thing, so here you go:
They ended up, oddly enough, with a minimum of fuss and explodey noise on some sort of damp greyish rock with enough terminal force to bruise a rhinoceros; gods not being rhinos, they got away with one slightly bashed shoulder (Rediculus), a copiously bleeding nose (Sors), various smaller injuries, and lots of pained not-wailing-because-gods-are-better-than-that. Rediculus ended up having most of the minor bashery and landing in a puddle as well, as Sors was the god of luck and it was probably about time that particular facet of his personality kicked in. It was only fair.
So, yeah, NaNo this year is about Roman gods. On vacation, only not really. Sort of. I don't even know. But anyway, I need to ask you Latin people quite a few questions once December kicks in and I actually start to care about realism.

oooops.
Ffffff I completely forgot I was supposed to post today, so this is going to be short.
This week has been okay, if rather long and slightly painful (two tests a day on average and a re-tightening of braces do not make for a happy xiy), so yeah. And Virgil lent me Ender's Game today, and I am on page 35 and it is lovely.
Here; have a drawing to make up for the utter lack of substance.

xiy's new look
I am writing this post while the other Curly Fries are off at school, and I have to say that it is quite a nice feeling to be at home while everybody else is in ninth period. However, the reason for my absence involves getting four teeth pulled out earlier today, which is not a happy occurrence. At all.
(Like, I would definitely prefer being bored to death in a freshman-infested math class learning about stupid matrices with all my teeth intact instead of sitting at home minus four teeth and bleeding copiously from the gums.)
So right now, I'm still drugged up on Novocaine (and that hurt more than the getting-teeth-pulled-out part), which is kind of problematic because it means I've lost all sense of where my bottom lip is and so I can't really eat. Or swallow. Or close my mouth. As a result, I look pretty gormless and drooly and not attractive in the least.
(Also, I don't think the nitrous oxide has worn off yet either, which means I feel sort of borderline hysterical at the moment, like I've just been on some crazy roller coaster and the giddiness hasn't gone away.)
And speaking of a new look, I got a haircut last Saturday, so now my hair is all layered and kind of short and stuff, and I guess it looks pretty nice. I can't put it into a proper ponytail, though, which is disappointing.
All in all, I look very different from how I looked last week; here is a visual aid.
I can't even eat ice cream because my gums are still bleeding and I don't want to eat bloody ice cream, because that'd be kind of disgusting. And I'd probably miss my mouth entirely and dribble all over the place, because my bottom lip is still so numb. Argghhh.
It doesn't hurt too much, thankfully, because I'm in no state right now to be swallowing anything more solid than water. I'd probably choke on the Motrin or something.
So, yeah, fun times.

so it looks like it's finally fall.
Today we were supposed to watch the movie/musical 1776 after school for APUSH extra credit, but technical difficulties prevented us doing so. Lynda borrowed the DVD from APUSH Teacher #1-of-4 and Momo graciously invited us (us being Lynda, House, and me) to go over to her house to watch. It was pretty interesting, even though we didn't get to finish because then the band people had to go to a marching band game.
Speaking of band, I hear Momo and House did very well in their band auditions; I KNEW YOU COULD DO IT; CONGRATULATIONS. <3 <3 <3
I have to get four of my teeth viciously yanked out tomorrow. D: I am not looking forward to it. Like, I'm going to have to walk around with four great big gaps in my teeth for months. It's going to look so stupid. Urghhhh. (Thank goodness today was school-picture-day [though, of course, picture day is nothing to look forward to] and not, like, next Friday or something.) And it's going to hurtttttttt and I don't like painnnnnnnnn and it's so unecessaryyyyyyyy and I don't like painnnn and it's going to hurt. D: D: D:
On a happier note, I got Photoshop last week and it is BEAUTIFUL. There are still some things I like better about Gimp (like how in Gimp you can press ctrl-z indefinitely to undo as many mistakes as you want, but in Photoshop you need to press ctrl-alt-z to undo more than one step, which is annoying), but over all Photoshop is awesomer.

Happy Birthday, House!
Alright now, let's all sing it together:
♫ Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday to you; happy birthday, dear Hou-ouseeeeeee~; HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! ♪
I actually drew this banner way back in July, because I was really bored and had nothing better to do at medical camp. Well, I did the sketch at medical camp, not the coloring. I did the coloring at home. ^.^
And Blogger's changed to be all pretty and clean and white
It's September now, but apparently the weather hasn't gotten the message yet. It was ~90F today, and the third floor of our school gets ridiculously hot in that sort of weather. And I just so happen to have French last period, which means I get to trek up the sweltering staircase (you can practically feel the steam; it was so humid today that paper started feeling soggy by the end of every class period) to a sweltering-er classroom while we reviewed the imperfect tense. Arrrgh.
But then it'll get cooler next week (I hope), so it'll all be good.
In Bio today, we had to do a lab about pillbug behavior. Momo, Virgil, and I named our ten pillbugs; the littlest one was Roanoke (the fattest one was Winthrop, the most rebellious was Anne Hutchinson, the two that looked most like each other were John Green and Hank Green, the skinniest was Delaware, the misfit-est was King George, and the meekest one was Canada), and it ended up dying, funnily enough. The pillbug we replaced it with was named Jamestown. :P
We were supposed to put the pillbugs in two petri dishes connected by a sort of hole-tunnel thing cut out of each dish so that they could move freely between the two (it kind of worked, but they kept escaping--Anne Hutchinson especially). A wet sheet of filter paper was put in one and a dry sheet in the other; apparently, the bugs were supposed to exhibit taxis and prefer the wet over the dry, but it didn't really work, because they just sort of wandered randomly.
(The wet-sheet dish was England and the dry one was America, because it always rains in England and because most of the bugs had American names anyway.)
And that's about it for today, I think.

here's a flying sheep; enjoy
Hello! I know I haven't posted much art here recently [insert shameless plug for my tumblr here], but today I am; this is part of a bigger thing I'm working on (which might or might not get finished sometime next week, depending on my relative level of late-summer laziness). I thought I'd share this bit with you guys, since I'm not sure how long it's going to take me and I'm not really sure what to talk about today.
This time next week, I'll be in a hotel somewhere in Maryland, halfway to North Carolina, where my family and Lynda's family have planned to go to on a rather late vacation. I'm quite excited. :D
And then after the vacation is school and APUSH and AP Bio and math (no gym, thankfully, but instead there's a stupid online health course that costs $126), which is considerably less exciting. Oh well. Fencing might be fun to go to again after a four-month break. . .
It's weird to think that we're going to be sophomores this year. :|a

aggggh I nearly forgot to post
So how's life? Lovely, I hope.
(Today's post is going to be rather short and rambly, because I didn't plan it in the least.)
I volunteered today in the children's garden of the Curly Fries' botanical garden as per usual, and it was pretty fun. I got to spend most of the time indoors in the blessed AC dumping soil into flowerpots (apparently it's for tomorrow's "fairy workshop," which I think involves small children [mostly girls] dressed in fairy-like costumes and planting cute little plants in the pots I worked so hard to fill up), and although that was a rather messy task, it was indoors, which basically makes up for everything. Today wasn't as hot as yesterday, but the sun was still rather terrible. It did rain, though, so at the moment it's quite cool (and humid) out. :)
Um. And then I started on a Phantom-Tollbooth-inspired bit of art that I haven't started coloring yet, though I will sometime soon.
Speaking of art, THIS is my entry for the Splashlife/HP Alliance Imagine Better art contest (it has my real-life first name it it, gasp). I guess voting on it opens tomorrow (?), and so if you want me to win lots of money (why would you? :|a), please go vote or like it or something. I dunno.
Okay, that's all for today.

When I was a smallish child, I was scared of a lot of things, and all these things could best be termed as "unknown things lurking in the dark." When I was a smallish child, I also enjoyed reading voraciously, since I had no other social life outside of perhaps school.
Thus, I read the first HP book in second grade (which seems relatively late compared to most of you) and it wasn't so terribly awful, though the whole Forbidden Forest thing creeped me out to no end afterward. And then I got it into my head to read the Chamber of Secrets, which turned out to be a very bad idea.

| "Is a book? Ooh, book! I will read the book!" |
![]() |
| Yeah, that was kind of my reaction. |

| >.< (The basilisk was fun to draw, though.) |

| Yeah. asjhasdfjkgdfashdf |
(Oh, and for some reason I ended up watching the movie not too soon after, I think. The horror of it is too great to be retold [and anyway, it was pretty much like the book experience but TEN TIMES WORSE.])
Now you can all point and laugh at the silly girl who was turned off of Harry Potter for years afterward because of the second book. (I would like to say here that the second book is still by far the creepiest for me, and I really don't know why.) Point and laugh.

*For some reason, I gave him a pirate voice. I do not know why.

I Always Forget to Add a Title
Hiiiiiiiii.
I'm really bored. House, Momo, Lynda, and I are going to help out at our old elementary school's annual end-of-school carnival thing tonight, which should be really fun and stuff, but right now I'm bored. English/French finals were okay (I kind of messed up on the English because I am dumb and didn't read teh directionz, but it doesn't really matter, since I've an A in that class anyway). I never was very worried about them.
It's the weekend, woot. Hooray for summer and warmth and sun and nice breezes and watermelon (lots and lots and lots of watermelon) and ice cream and flowers and birds and blue skies and white clouds and green grass and no more school! Hooray for HPDH Part Two! Hooray for Virgil's birthday and my birthday! Happy summer; I hope yours is beautiful. ♥
So I found this song called Forevermore, and it's quite pretty and cutesy and even a little sad. And listening to that song sort of inspired me to draw, and so I did.
(It took a while, but I procrastinated on studying for finals in order to draw it, so it didn't really take that long.)
Um, yeah. I hope you like.

school is almost over. this pleases me.
Hullo.
In English class, we've been reading Romeo and Juliet, which is a play that I both like and hate. One the one hand (<-that is what too much Greek translation does to you; you start using μεν. . . δε everywhere), Shakespeare's language is lovely. There are some bits that I really really like, and of course all the long rambling speeches are fun to read. On the other hand, the characters are kind of annoying (I think my favorite is the prince, only because he seems like the only sensible one and I feel bad for him having to run a city where the two biggest families hate each other and are constantly causing widespread chaos) and/or tiresome and not really sympathetic. So that kind of ruins it.
(I had fun writing an alternate ending, though. I stayed up rather late yesterday to finish. I do hope English Teacher likes it. The great and wondrous SBL helped me come up with a nice, grammatically-correct Latin title. I am pleased.)
Finals are coming up. Ew.
One good thing is that, supposedly, the next week or so in Curlyfryland is actually going to be sunny and warm and without precipitation, i.e., unlike what it has been since basically April. This is exciting. :D
Memorial day is on Monday; happy holiday in advance. (Have fun playing in the parade, you band people.)
Oh, and I drew you a Takumi. (Takumi, for those who aren't familiar, is a character from Looking for Alaska by John Green who has the most amazing hat ever.)
It seems like all my posts nowadays involve me showing you my art. . . I could stop, if you like.
Yeah, that's probably it for today. Do please enjoy the rest of your day.
Cheers (I guess I've finally found a closing phrase),

Happy Friday!
I had quite a nice day today. The weather was beautiful and school was largely tolerable (French class was actually fun/productive today; fancy that!) and it's Friday. Fridays automatically make everything better.
It's really nice out still. I might go out and read later on or something.
Uhhhhhh.
Finals are coming up in, like, seven-ish days. The Greek final is on Monday, though, and I kind of really need to study.
And thus, because I am a fail and have nothing really to talk about, here's a sketch of Peter Panthat maybe I'll get around to colouring sometime and a few pictures of some flowers I took last week.

| There was originally a Tinker Bell in the picture, but she ended up looking more like a blue hairball, so I gave up. |

| Flowers on top of my chemistry homework. How lovely. ♥ |

my witty-title-generator just broke.
Hey. o/
Today is Friday the thirteenth. zomg.
So the reason why I'm posting so much later than I usually do is because today I went to buy a T-shirt for art class; we're doing silkscreening and I'm planning to make myself a DFTBA shirt. It's pretty awesome. I'm excited. :D
And then, after I got home from my little shopping excursion, I made myself a very (very, very) late dinner, which I'm eating as I speak. At the risk of sounding cliche, it is fried rice (lol point and stare at the stereotypical Chinese girl lol), but it's actual legit just-made fried rice with carrot and shrimp in it, as opposed to the soggy crap that looks like oatmeal-mixed-with-frozen-vegetables that the school cafeteria thinks is "Asian."
It is, in fact, the only dish involving heat and a stove and actual vegetables and cutting boards that I know how to make. So I guess my chances of starving in the future are slightly lowered.
That's it, I think.
Sorry for the short post
I'll leave you with a nice HP drawing:

It's so weird to tag this post as 'Friday.' :|
This post is, strangely, being written at a later date than most of my Tuesday posts were, despite the fact that I obviously have more time to write and therefore should be churning out these things more quickly. However, today, I do actually have a good excuse--I was finishing the colouring on my mommy dearest's Mother's Day present.
Would you like to see?
Of course you do.
(I should warn you now that it's not actually very mother-y themed, but I tried and failed badly to draw my mother realistically, so I drew something that I hope she'll appreciate. Even though it has nothing to do with motherhood. ^^;)
Huh. It seems that Blogspot has changed some of its controls. The tag box is now on the left instead of the right and then there's the location thing that Momo said located us somewhere in Kansas. Strange.
Have you guys had a nice Friday? This week was (lame) senior prank week at our school, but for all intents and purposes it was nearly a normal week. (It rained today, somewhat ruining the seniors' camp-out-on-the-lawn-day. I was not sympathetic.)
Aaaand. Uh. Oh yeah--House and I are definitely going on to 9HD Part the Second, which means we have to get an actual trifold, resize all the pictures, cut down on the neon construction paper, and actually make the thing look presentable. The amount of work involved doesn't bear thinking about. ;A;
So, yeah. Tell me what you think of that drawing and stuff. I hope your week wasn't too awful.
Cheers,
xiy
