Everything since...June

Hi!!! I finally remembered/was able to post this week!
This summer has been fun but as a whole, pretty uneventful. My family and I went to Rome for a bit over a week and stopped in Germany for 2 quick days to see family and then came home. I had a ton of fun despite its shortness. We found out that 2 more of my cousins are getting married--one didn't invite anyone to the wedding but our grandma (da hell?!) and the other one knocked up his girlfriend and everyone's invited in October. It's like I have two different families.

Now I'm working at the hospital where my dad works. I'm being a research assistant which is super boring and doesn't even involve my doing that much except for sitting at a computer all day looking for things wrong with people.

But yeah.

Summer is half way over DDDD: which is stupid.

House and I have been doing Community Band annnnnddd....omg I just watched the latest episode of the Glee Project [*spoiler alert*] WHAT THE HELL, RYAN MURPHY? B*TCH CUT THE ONLY GIRL I LIKED.

Kay gotta go cry in a hole now byeeeeeeeeeeee

I WANT A BOX OF LUCKY CHARMS WITH JUST MARSHMALLOWS

Teehee.

I love Damian.

Ummm um umm ummm let's see. What the current word count?
1,204.

It'll go up before the night is over, though. I'm just on a Glee break.

Here's an excerpt from what I've written so far today:

Any small motion might trigger a torrential downpour of tears which are precariously balanced at the thresholds of my eyes, held there only by sheer will and surface tension. Thank God for hydrogen bonds.

Teehee. Science lolz.

GLEE! & some Harry Potter geekiness

So Glee starts tonight, hooray!! I want to get some substantial flute-practicing in before 8:00 (it's 7:15 right now) so this is going to be brief. Be grateful that I remembered this time!!

So earlier I was doing tonight's Bio notes (actually I was doing last night's Bio notes, but I plan to do tonight's notes later!!) and I decided that it would be a brilliant idea to listen to Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, because it relates to Potions Class which relates to chemistry, which is related to biology. It totally enriched my experience, and I remembered for the billionth time that I keep meaning to Google the lyrics of "In Noctem" (one of the tracks from the album that has indiscernible words).
OH YES I WAS RIGHT, IT'S LATIN WOOHOO!!!

Let's have some translating fun (my favorite pastime!)

In Noctem

Carry my soul into the night
May the stars guide my way
I glory in the sight,
As darkness takes the day.
Ferte in noctem animam* meam
Illustre stellae viam meam.
Aspectu illo glorior
Dum capit nox diem.

Cantate vitae canticum
Sine dolore actae
Dicite eis quos amabam
Me nunquam obliturum

Sing a song, a song of life
Lived without regret
Tell the ones, the ones I loved
I never will forget,
Never will forget.

Okay, so the English verses and the Latin verses are exactly the same, so no translating for me. Actually the second to last line of English is never given, and I think the last line is supposed to be "Never will forget me" but I guess that didn't fit or whatever.

 [Danger: here be spoilers!]
I think it's interesting that this song is associated with Dumbledore's death (it's featured shortly before he dies, and maybe also while he's giving a speech at one point. I haven't actually seen the movie in a while) because it doesn't really fit to his character. I wonder why Steve Kloves (yes - Nicholas Hooper did the music, but I just looked it up and Kloves, the screenwriter, did the words) would write lyrics like "sing a song, a song of life, lived without regret." I feel like Dumbledore's life was filled with the most regret out of any character in the series, save for maybe Severus Snape. Is it just because he didn't know that yet? I don't know. Either way, it's beautiful, and the Latin lyrics give it a sort of feel that I associate with traditional church music - it's chilling. It's such a contrast to the freaky digitized voices in the track "The Drink of Despair" (are they supposed to be saying anything?).

Okay, I'm done being geeky. I hope your mind* was sufficiently entertained by this post.

Love,
Virgil

*I always remember the difference between anima, soul, and animus, mind, because I just think of EZ and House: EZ is the masculine word and he's super-smart; House is the feminine word and she doesn't have a soul.

Fencing, Politics, Picnik, and Glee

(But not necessarily in that order.)

So today's fencing session was punctuated with  a lot of talk of politics. Or, to perhaps put it more correctly, one of the scary-fencing-eleven-year-olds' ideas of politics (and/or how to fix the United States's copious debt problem). You see, the scary-fencing-eleven-year-old (we'll just call them SFEYOs) is of the opinion that the United States should somehow buy up the Sahara desert and then get people to build a giant solar panel across it. This would generate lots of energy for the US, which would then presumably be sold to China (it's always China, China, China; never anything else) so that the US can pay off its debts to that same country. It's a terrible plan, but he seems convinced of its greatness, and no amount of dissuasion seems to have done any good.

Much of footwork was spent discussing the monumental flaws of the SFEYO's plan, and so we didn't actually do all that much exercising today. :)

Oh, and speaking of China, it's so stupid that people think that it's China's fault that the US's economy is screwed up. I mean, really. China is not "stealing jobs"; in the words of Virgil, China was merely doing what was good for China, and that's really all that it should be expected to do. The United States screwed itself over by depending so much on China.

And, lastly, on the topic of politics--Ohio, where we 6LCF live, is now apparently entirely Republican. And apparently the Republicans are going to cut money from schools/libraries/things that matter. How lovely. >.>

Politics, in my opinion, is just a very silly business.

In other news, today, in a fit of hilarious juvenility (I just made up a word!), Momo, Lynda, and I made a quite hilarious picture on Picnik. It was originally supposed to be the cover of Lynda's NaNo novel, but it turned out, er, well.
I'll just let you see for yourself, yeah?

:D
--
Darren Criss apparently now has a role on Glee, which is wonderful news for the Darren-Criss-loving and/or Glee-loving Curly Fry community.
I was originally going to watch Glee and write my first impressions of it in this post, but there was an unfortunate event called piano practice which I must do, meaning that I will, sadly, be unable to watch said show during the time in which it is airing.
I guess I'll watch it on Hulu if/when I have the time; perhaps my first impressions will come next week.

And, finally, the NaNo usual. . .

Wordount: 26,741 (I haven't had the chance to write much today, but I will.)
Last sentence: “I will,” replied Ellie, clutching the scribbled-on piece of paper like her life depended on it. Her brain was rapidly churning out random, disjointed, highly panicked thoughts.

The Scary Things That Hide in My Closet

Right, so.

You know how I went on and on last week about scary movies?  Well, it appears to be that the world hates me, since I've seen only twenty million and four trailers for Paranormal Activity 2.  And I'm still freaked the crap out.  (I'd usually take this space to put that last sentence into more colourful language, but the other Curly Fries already yell at me for my lack of censorship.)  And now I have a lovely lamp in my room right nice and lovely next to my bed, so I don't have to get in or out of bed to turn it off or on, making me completely-almost(-okay-not-really) invincible to any evil things that might, like, idk... bite my piccolo-playing arm off.
Or something.
I'd probably suggest for you to do the same thing, since these parts are notoriously famous for their monster-thing attacks.  Like, duh.*

And—zomg—another week has passed by, and I still don't know what I'm being for Halloween.
Dang.

In other news:
Our marching band will not be marching tonight; it's a pep band game, which means that we get to sit in the stands (not in icky, sweaty uniform, yayyy) and play when there are time-outs.  And stuff.

There were a ton of subs for teachers today at school.  (We watched a fun video about Newton [as in Sir Isaac] being an alchemist and Bobby Hooke being a butt about it.  Super educational.)  I guess even teachers think "Screw it, I'm skipping class," every once in a while, too.  Remarkable.
The only other thing that was that eventful today in school was this super cute kid that came and shadowed someone in my English class.  Thank you, Grilled Cheesus.**

I think that's about it.
So, yeah. Bye.

With all due respect,
Houose I just spelled my name wrong wow.

Post scriptum: Y'all are in for a real treat on Monday ;D

*Except for not really, I think... er, I hope...

**Oh, yeah.  I also started watching Glee this week. [*bandwagon*]  So maybe now I'll have maybe sorta kinda a clue as to what the frick Momo and Lee are talking about when they go off on their one hundred mile-per-hour "OMGWEREYOUWATCHINGLASTNIGHT?!?!?!?!" monologues.
