Hi there guys! Today, is Tingly Thursday, you wanna know why? It has something to do with what I learned today. Today, I learned that if you sit in a cross legged position for an hour straight, doing quadratics and reading To Kill A Mockingbird for your English class, your left leg will start tingling. It felt strange.
Now that that's over with, let's go onto today's date. It is the thirteenth...oooh, some of you have caught on! For those that must have an actual number for them to see, it's the 13th. Now, many people believe 13 is unlucky. Others, swear that it is their lucky number. I see nothing interesting about it, besides the fact that it has a three in it. My lucky number is 3. I have decided, since everyone is doing some type of strange info list, I'll do mine on the number 13. I have to mention something though. Today's 13th, had it been on Friday, it would be slightly spookier...too bad for House! I got the number 13!(She probably doesn't care...)
1. For 13 days in October 1962, the most dangerous segment of the Cold War transpired when nuclear missile installations were discovered to be being built only 90-some miles from the US mainland. This was called the Cuban Missile Crisis.
2. There are many buildings that do indeed skip over the number 13 in numbering their floors. But there are also many that tempt fate and number their thirteenth floor 13.
3. Of the NASA Apollo missions 11-17, only Apollo 13 didn't land on the moon.
4. On Friday, October 13, 1307, King Phillip IV of France ordered the arrest of the Grand Master of the Knights Templar and his senior knights and other members. They were tortured to
compel them to admit to "wrongdoings."And they were executed. Sympathizers of the Templars condemned Friday the 13th as an evil day.
5. It is believed that to left-handed people, 13 is their lucky number. This is your lucky number, Momo!
6. The state lotteries of France don't have the number 13.
7. Virgil, my Harry Potter freak, this is for you. Remember Professor Trelawney? Well this is her fear: to have a dinner table set for 13 people. It is believed that the first person to leave the table will die within a year. Some people believe the death of Jesus proves this. Remember at Christmas dinner? In the 3rd book?
8. The registration of Princess Mary’s birth on that particular day was delayed on purpose so she would not be entered as number 13.
9. This is the final fun fact. Triskaidekaphobia is the fear of the number 13. Acrophobia is one name for the fear of heights. Pedophobia is a fear of children. Isopterophobia is the fear of wood-eating insects. Interesting, oui ou non?
And now you may go back to your daily life... I realize I should have done 13 facts, but....I'm lazy. :P
Luv, Lynda
First off, I believe Trelawney says "the first to rise will be the first to die" - she doesn't state a specific timeframe, such as a year - in fact, Dumebledore is the first to rise and the first to die, but he doesn't die until more than three years later in Book Six. Also, regarding the Last Supper - Judas was the first to leave the table and the first to die - not Jesus Christ. Judas committed suicide after betraying Jesus but before He was crucified.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I just like to give you a hard time. Awesome post.
Did you know that my older sister was born on a Friday the 13th?
'lo, Lyndikins. I liked that post. 'Twas very informative (though I knew triskaidekaphobia already; didn't we go over that in, like, ELA or something?).
ReplyDeleteI edited a couple of your tags too, just so they wouldn't clutter up the space.
(BTW, our labels section is progressing nicely--most of the tags are quite large now :D)
