Now, I know that none of the Six Little Curly Fries are actually mothers (at least, I do hope we're not...we're a bit young, I should think), but Mother's Day is still quite a special day, yes? So I just wanted to start a post about what we're doing to show our wonderful mommies that we love them dearly, contrary--sometimes--to outward appearances.
Me? Well, I made my mother a very nice (kind of cheesy) card with a drawing of my big happy family (if four people counts as "big") in it. I was going to make her breakfast, but our house is kind of devoid of any real breakfast food except Cheerios (and those are more for my baby sister), and my mom's not the biggest fan of cereal, so that didn't really work. My mom was a bit late in declaring what she wanted (jewelry, though she didn't say what kind), so we still haven't really gotten her present yet, but hopefully we will go and pick it out today.
Um...I feel kind of like a bad daughter...did I do enough?
(By the way, this is xiy typing, in case you didn't notice.)
Anyway, what did you guys to for Mother's Day (you can answer this tomorrow if you don't have time today)?
Carrie:
House: My mum's actually sick today with something like what I just had (Get well soon! *lessthanthree*), but Dad and I (meaning "Dad") made her the usual Mothers' Day crepe breakfast that we always do. We went over my grandma's house (id est, my mum's mum's residence) and ate a lovely lunch with a lot of my family from both my mum and dad's sides.
Momo: Haha! I just posted a thing on mother's day too! My mom asked for apple trees (???) but we haven't gotten them yet. I was a great daughter and made a lovely pancake breakfast all by myself! I also made a box full of certificates of momliness, a coupon, and some origami...for some reason she liked it.
Lynda: Uh, now, what did I do?? Oh yeah. Well, I drew this pretty card, but she didn't notice it, cuz I taped it onto the second floor door, and my COUSIN (grrrrr) opened it. So she didn't see it behind the door. *sigh*. I also got her a single rose because....well because I couldn't a) find a store in Shaker Square that sold bouquets of roses, besides that icky florist design shop (who honestly wants a rose bouquet that needs a month to be made? I EMPHASIZED on the "now" word!) and b) I ended up finding it in Dave's Supermarket but--> it was $25. I only had ten dollars with me *annoyed grunt*
Virgil: Well, we had to get up early to go to church, so there really wasn't any time for the ol' breakfast-in-bed routine. However, my dad did go to Bruegger' s to get us yummy bagels and chicken spaetzle soup, and tonight we will have our annual lobster & steak dinner with our next-door neighbors. I also wrote a poem for my mum. Do you want to read it? Of course you do.

You always sit and talk with me
Whenever I feel low;
You protect me from the elements:
From sun, from rain, from snow.
The gratitude is always there
Although you may not see it;
Even when it is not Mother’s Day
My appreciation is “legit.”
I cannot even express in verse
All that I have to say,
But I just wanted you to know
That it doesn’t just last for today.
I love you with all my heart,
Or wherever Love might lie;
Perhaps it’s actually in the stomach
Or maybe the left eye.
I’m not sure exactly where Love lives,
But I know this to be true:
There’s a special place in that appendage
Reserved for loving you.
Whenever I feel low;
You protect me from the elements:
From sun, from rain, from snow.
The gratitude is always there
Although you may not see it;
Even when it is not Mother’s Day
My appreciation is “legit.”
I cannot even express in verse
All that I have to say,
But I just wanted you to know
That it doesn’t just last for today.
I love you with all my heart,
Or wherever Love might lie;
Perhaps it’s actually in the stomach
Or maybe the left eye.
I’m not sure exactly where Love lives,
But I know this to be true:
There’s a special place in that appendage
Reserved for loving you.
(It's not amazing, but of course she absolutely loved it, because I'm a terrible daughter and I almost never let her read anything that I write.)
As always, readers, you can tell us your story in the comments!
Aww, the poem is so sweet. Since I was making a card, I actually did print out that picture and poem from the post before! Thanks! My mother loves poems, and I just am AWFUL at them, so that really helped.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the 6LCF could be of assistance :)
